At Elaschuk.org it is our mission to provide support to our Veterans that have fallen on hard times. To not just help but to improve their quality of life they fought for us to have.
Many older veterans in hospitals, VA homes, nursing homes and care centers have limited or no family nearby. Without social engagement and positive interaction, veterans’ health can suffer.
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs have shown a significant decrease in homelessness among veterans. While this reduction is promising, the needs of veterans struggling with homelessness, unemployment, and other barriers to reintegration still exist. Of the veterans living in America today, 63,000 are chronically homeless. Although they represent a relatively small percentage of the general population, veterans make up nearly 20 percent of the homeless population.
Our programs and initiatives are targeted toward any veterans that are lonely or isolated. Veterans in VA hospitals, assisted care homes, community living center, retirement homes. It is imperative that the additional support they receive impacts their way of life positively. Many of our soldiers over the years have returned to a society that is ill-equipped to support them – a society that will never truly understand the stress of service and the atrocities of a war zone, nor the long-lasting impact on their families. We make every effort to bridge this gap and raise awareness.
“We must all strive to help and provide support for those who fought for our freedom. While we can never truly repay this debt, we can always extend a helping hand”
– Michael Elaschuk
I would like to personally thank all of our supporters that have assisted us to get where we are today. Through a chance encounter with a homeless vet I met last year who was unable to pay for his medication and food. I was able offer him a few dollars to help and have forged a strong friendship working with him to get back on his feet and enjoy a meaningful life.
I took this interaction to heart, as I am very fortunate to be able to live in the United States and raise my family in a free and just society. I wanted to do more and give back. I wanted to help more people like my friend and offer sustainable program’s that provide the services needed to make a difference.
Sincerely yours,
